Unhappy HELP! Installed new rack damper bolt, now car won't start

I replaced the silver bolt with a new gold one. The spring pressure was substantially firmer in the gold bolt. I installed the new one about 1/2 of the way in and started the car... it shook like crazy (just like before) so I turned the bolt in another 1/4 of the way. Now the car wouldn't start so I backed it back off about 1/2 a turn. Still won't start. I kept doing this until the bolt was fully out... car turns over but won't catch

Please tell me I didn't damage the IP?

I didn't turn the bolt in all the way... I could still easily turn it by hand with a short wrench. The previous bolt was turned in so far that it was bottomed out. This one still had at least 1/4" of an inch sticking out.

Thanks...
