K1 spring kit

Does anyone know where I can purchase (on-line) a K1 spring kit for a 1982 300sd? I have fixed vacuum leaks, adjusted the Bowden cable, modulator and have achieved a much better transmission shift. However, I would like to replace the K1 spring kit when I change the transmission filter and fluids. This should allow me the ability to reduce the firmness from 1-2.

The K1 is for the 2 - 3 shift not the 1 - 2 shift. The 1 -2 shift can be adjusted with vacumn adjustments at the valve on the drivers side of the trans where the vac line attaches.

This thread caught my eye because I'm experiencing hard 1-2 shifts, but everything else is baby butt smooth. Can you explain what you mean by "where the vac line attaches"? I've got a 124, so it's probably somewhere different than the 123.

You are correct. However, in order to eliminate the slip in 2-3 I have adjusted the modulator and Bowden cable. The result is a firm 1-2, smooth 2-3, slightly firm 3-4. So, when I change the K1 spring kit...I should be able to re-adjust and soften the 1-2 firm shift.

You are right in that after I replaced the K-1 it allowed me more versitility when adjusting everything else.

There is a divice on the side of the transmission called the vac modulator, this is a colored plastic device, that you can adjust by taking off the cap and turning the key that is then exposed. If you do a search there have been tons of stuff written about this including how to that you will probably find in the DIY section.

300SD Transmission Shifting Fixed!

I had been chasing a transmission shifting issue that I finally fixed today.
The condition was a firm 1-2, soft 2-3, and slightly firm 3-4. After reviewing many posts as I am a MB Newbie, I replaced the old and brittle vacuum lines. I experienced only a slight improvement...basically the same firm 1-2, soft 2-3, and slightly firm 3-4. Next, I adjusted the Modulator and Bowden cable. The adjustments improved the soft 2-3...but firmed the 1-2 even more. I ordered a K1 spring kit as that seemed like the next step to fix. I stumbled across another post that recommended replacing the plastic valve levers as they wear to the point that the valve is not functioning properly. I removed the plastic black box on the valve cover and sure enough they were shot. I had seen a DIY on DieselGiant.com so I ordered the plastic valve levers and replaced today. I wish I checked the valve levers first as the Bowden cable and Modulator adjustments were not necessary. However, I am very happy now, the transmission is shifting like new!
