The cold took its toll.

I just wanted to share with you guys. Today here in st. Charles its only 7 degree's out. I did not plug my block heaters in to any of my cars. i went out to start the 300D turbo and after a minute of cranking and glowing it started. I even took a video of it that ill put on YOUTUBE.com so anyways, i had not started the 240D since last week and was going to do my weekly start. The battery has been kinda down since i have not been using that car and also the cold has taken its toll on the it. so i glowed it and cranked, and glowed and cranked, about 2 or 3 times before the battery was really down. so needless to say, its on the charger, and ill see if i can get her running. I also made a video of that start to. I just felt light sharing for some reason.

hey, watching a person cranking a diesel at 7 degrees is an art form as someone has mention on here. I would love to watch.

Same story here. We got a lot of snow in SW MO Wednesday evening so I parked the 300CD outside cause it wont fit in my 3rd garage because of all my reloading junk . So I put the Soobie in the garage where the Benz normally sleeps so I could drive it to work Thursday. It did great in the snow BTW, it is an AWD. Anyways, roads cleared up today so I figured I would drive the Benz. It has been below 20 F since I parked it and got to 8 degrees last night. Took about a minute of cranking and cycling GP's but it finally started. Good thing I have a fresh battery in it. I normally keep it in my heated garage and it really likes it. She goes back to her normal side of the bed tonight and the Soobie gets shoved in the 3rd garage. I can't beleive how bad Benz's are in the ice and snow. What I wouldn't give for a 4-matic right now

well folks, about an hour and a half on the block heater and a basically dead battery (barley turned over) i had it on the charger for 4 hours and and tried starting it but, then the battery went dead again, had it on the charger again for an hour and half only. but with a lil luck she started! i have her warming up right now. She kinda needs some diesel, but i dont want to put her on the salt filled roads. so maybe ill get a gas can full of diesel... who knows

it was 15F in GR today and I tried starting the 84D but after 3 tries I knew it was not gonna do it. So I plugged the block heater and after 30 min, Voila!!

So, there it is....

I also changed the differential oil of the 85 D today to Mobil 1 75W-90. Seem to have a noticalbe, smooother effect.

I live in Colorado and work at a ski area. My 300tdt seems to start ok at -15 or so most of the time. It runs for about 30 sec. then dies, but on the second start it seems to be ok. I am guessing that it dies when the glow plugs go off. It normally starts on the first glow. I just hope that I am not damaging my motor by runing it when it is so cold. Any advise? There is not a plug available in the lot where I park.

mine starts no problem down to 3-4*f, but this morning it was -8*. I didn't need to go anywhere, but tommorow I need to do a 250 mile RT. and the HIGH is supposed to be -3. no block heater. we'll see. but i do have a roll away charger. and a 500 watt halogen lite to throw under the hood.

I am in Lansing, MI right now and it is also only 7 Degrees, I am gonna head out and do some errands...I bet my SD will start right up for me. (it does reliably without a heater as low as -10F) Two years ago it started at that temp with 15w40 dino oil in the sump...truly amazing. Now that it has 5w40 Mobil 1 its pretty much effortless.
