W126/w123 brake parts question

Question:

Are the rear brake calipers of the early 80's W126 compatible with the W123? I might want to grab a pair of rear w126 calipers

Looking in the pelican parts catalogue I see that the rear right, ATE is the exact same part number for the SD and 300D.. Both '83's.

Soooo, I should be more or less good, as long as the calipers for the SD are still in place.

I have two w126 gassers and the rear calipers fit my w123wagons...I am pretty sure I had a look at some w123 sedan calipers too and they were all the same, so you should be good. I vaguely remember something about piston diameters being different for some but am not sure.

Yes, don't worry about those either. This I know for a fact are the same cause I swapped over several hoses from both SD, sedan, 420sel and wagon. They are all the same, I exhausted all my spares before I stopped being cheap and bought some new hoses.

Or did you want the exact size description of the fittings, cause that I don't know.

Size so I can get an appropriate flare wrench that doesn't suck.

Sorry don't know...I went out and got the boxes my new hoses came in so you could have the part numbers of the new ones I used. So far, I have looked up the numbers but have found nothing in regards to the published size of the fittings for said hoses. Try looking these up...see what you can find. I only checked the first 2 sites.

Raybestos BH380009- I think these were the rears
Beck/Arnley 0731112- fronts?

The front and rear fittings look the same so that part should'nt matter.

it's all good. I still need to verify it is the calipers on the '83 300D I need to replace and not the hoses.

^^ FWIW Joe- The I changed all the hoses on that car around 2003. The calipers are probably original.

Almost forgot the e-brake stuff under the rotor. We backed off the adjusting screw ... cleaned and shot it with some oil to make it turn more freely. Banged all the crud off under there to make sure that was'nt hanging up the e-brakes.

Thanks Rick!

I don't think the parking brakes are sticking because the shoes look fine. But I could be wrong.

Might want to plan on rebuilding them if they are original. Putting a 20 year old caliper on is just asking for another repair...

you will need an 11mm or 7/16" HIGH QUALITY flare wrench for the steel lines, and a 14mm decent flare wrench for the hoses.

Well thats just going to be a pain in the but to locate since the harbor freight wrenches snap according to their reviews and the craftsman stuff sucks.

I got a second set of calipers that I am going to swap in and see how those do and then rebuild the originals. The hoses should be fine if Rick replaced them in '03

I use the napa flare wrenches, they are ok... MAC is the best in my opinion, and that's all I'll use on my personal vehicle brake lines...
