Towing 300D with tow strap?

Hi folks-

I searched on this and found only one post where a guy destroyed his tranny by pulling a car with a tow strap.

So one of my coolant hoses coming out of my external block heater developed a small leak. I got one end off, but the other end is in a place where even with the car jacked up I cannot see, let alone fit a screwdriver to undo the hose clamp. I assume it's connecting to the bottom coolant connection on the block.

Anyway, I'm gonna call it a day and drop the car at the mechanic tomorrow. So I'll either need it professionally towed or I have a friend with a pretty hefty pickup truck who could pull me with a tow strap. Is that even remotely a good idea?

What do I do, unlock the steering column with the key, put the car in neutral, release the parking brake and use the unpowered brakes and steering while he pulls?

It's about 6-8 miles from my house to the mechanic, and there's a pretty steep downhill on the way there.

If a decent strap costs $30 and a tow costs $75+, but there's a good chance of messing up the car using the strap, I'd rather get it professionally towed.

Should I specifically request a flatbed tow if I do get it towed by a company?

Thanks folks,
