Cool 87 300SDL on Ebay

Looking for another merc diesel. this one's available on ebay (320076806638) its up to 3550, but kbb.com gives a value of around 3K. 213K miles. Got an 84 300TD thats about to collapse from rust but the chicks dig it.

Can't go by book value on these cars. Diesel prices are inflated. More so on the west coast. The typical $3000 SDL is a fixer upper. You can get lucky finding a diamond in the rough but not on eBay.

This car still has the trap oxidizer. MB should take care of it with no hassles. Might get a new exhaust and turbo out of it.

Conversion to R134a is NOT a plus. Finding a car with R12 is a plus if it gets hot where you live.

In the future, you'll get more responses if you post the link. ctrl c, ctrl v, nothing to it -

No service and maintenance records. Big caveat! You can do better for $6500.

Yeah, just keep an eye on craigslist. There are always a few nice Benzes on craigslist for cheap here in San Diego. Makes me wish I could buy just a few more....

That is a sweet color...I am partial to teal blues, owning a 1991 300TE wagon in beryl blue... almost like Acura's jasper green color ca. 1990
I also am very partial to the light beige leather and wonder what color that 1987 SDL is... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mercedes-Benz-300-Series-300SDL-1987-MERCEDES-300SDL-DIESEL-NO-RESERVE_W0QQitemZ320076806638QQihZ011QQcategoryZ6330QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Is that a french beige or almondine or albergeen or something?

Can you explain why R134 is not a plus? I've always been under the impression of the exact opposite due to cost of R12 and the major pollution factor of R12.

I've read a few posts on here where people have mentioned that R134 does not have the same lubricating qualities that R12 has, but not sure if that's it or not. Linking to a FAQ or something would suffice. Searching doesn't yield any sort of alarming results I'd expect with such a stern warning as yours.

R12 vs. R134

At the moment, R12 is not much more expensive than R134, plus it is a more efficient heat transfer fluid (= cools better), especially in older a/c systems that were designed to use R12. There may be other technical issues that the experts here can tell you about. As to the ozone-depletion issues, I can't comment.

I'm gonna need more info than that

I'm pretty sure there a lots of cars being sold today that have kick ass A/C systems running off of R134. My 87 which has been converted to R134 is plenty cold for me.

As to the ozone-depletion issue, well that would be instant thread hijack

We don't need to do a giant thread hijack here, but it is how R-134A works with the condensers that our MB's came with. R-134A works well in our cars with a parallel flow condenser, but all that is search-able, and will be discussed ad-nauseum in a few short months.......
