83' 240D fuel gauge repair & KAT coolant heaters

Guys I have an 83' 240D just picked up and the fuel gauge does'nt work? Also does'nt have a block heater. Are the KAT coolant hose heaters worth using and what wattage?

Put some B100 in when it gets warm and see if it cleans up the gauge. Usually the pick up gets so crudded that the arm cant move. Failing that replacing it is not that difficult.

Fuel gauge problem is more than likely faulty sender. Simple to replace, remove first-aid box, a couple of screws lift up and pull forward [you're facing the trunk]. Be sure to get a new gasket. Unscrew the old, screw in the new. Don't know of KAT coolant hose heater. However, a guess would be a magnetic oil pan type heater would be better, as a coolant heater, needs to be on lower hose (maybe) as the thermostat is closed, would not do much good to warm engine, I think. The one I replaced had used bio. You may want to try to clean. I would get a new gasket either way.

Quite a few people here use the in-line lower radiator hose heater. I got one from Ebay recently to put in my TD. Can't remember the wattage but the size is 1 1/2. (actual hose on the car is 1 3/8). Wattage varies by hose size on some heaters.
