smashed glow plug

I have searched and not found this. I had a bad glow plug, checked and it was #4. Replaced it, but noticed that the new plug was a bit longer than the one that came out. Rechecked several times and it should be the correct glow plug(Bosch 80006). After about 10 miles heard a sound like a stick in the fan ,stopped and could not find anything and the noise had stopped. Several days later it was colder and I could tell a plug was not working. Checked and it was the same plug. Pulled it and it was smashed back, like it had been bradded on the end. Looked closely at the original that I took out and it is shorter because it was bradded back, but was very smooth and looked like it was made that way --not. Now know it was not a stick in the fan. What is the problem and how serious do you think it is?

it could be something stuck in the Prechamber, or it could be some carbon buildup, it could also be something I cannot guess. pull that injector and heat shield, and look in.

I went back and found this thread http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=172361&highlight=injector+removal
Something like mine except my injector did not break. Why did this happen?
