Question worth taking a chance?

Looking at a 190D 1965. The car is baby blue. but it does not run. This is all the info I could get on it.

I haven't found any rust on the car. I've had it for about a year and a half and never drove it. The previous owner said he was driving down a hill on I5 south of Salem when pulling up the next hill it began to rattle or knock. He slowed down and got off of the freeway and limped it home. I put a battery in it but the starter doesn't seem to work. The engine turns over freely and I towed it down the driveway in gear, engine turned free with no noise and developed good oil presser. It could be a rod or maybe an injector.

Is it worth a chance at 1500?

thanks
Doug

maybe.

it might be worth having it checked by a benz specialist.

do you know how to use the gorilla knob to start it?

OK, I do not even know what a gorilla knob is.
Any advice on checking it before going to a MB mech? how hard would it be to get parts?

I'm not sure I understand your question. How does the $1500 factor in? You say you've had it for a year and a half so it doesn't seem as though that would be the purchase price.???

Gorilla knob sounds like an appropriate explination. Will that stop the starter from engaging? does something this old have a neutral/clutch safety system on it?

(yes it is the sellers description, sorry for the confusion)
thanks
Doug.

Get it inspected

I have only owned two w123 a 1977 300D and now a 1979 240D but have looked at purchasing bothe the w110diesel the one you are looking at and the 115 chassis diesels.

The 110s had I have been told a great need for greasing and suspension car so be ware of that. Also floor boards and area around the headl lights and radiator support tended to rust I have been told.

Before I even consider buying a car I have the seller on board with the fact that I or he has to take for a full inspection (which I as the prospective buyer pay for). I use the Shop Forum list of reputable independent MB dealers. Also get as much history on the vehicle as you can. Test drive it on the highway no matter how inconvienced the seller may be.

Hope this helps Tom
