Question Windshield drain gutter.....sort of.....

Folks, I originally posted this over in DIY Bodywork....got no response....so I will try here in Diesel......where all of the interesting folks read.....

My '85 300D has these sort of fin like pieces that extend forward from either side of the windshield......they are made from some sort of black plastic.....they either do some sort of aerodynamic thing for the car, or act as windshield drain gutters.......

What is the proper name for this part?? a part # would be great..!!!!

Where would I find a replacement???

I am usually over on the diesel side if this forum, and have looked at Performance Products catalog ..... not listed....

Also checked out Phil & Friends.....not listed there either......

Thanx,
SB

Try this link...http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=123964

I have bought some things from Jim. Seems to be an honest fellow with a sizable supply of 'old' MB's to pull parts from. He's always been prompt at responding to my emails and forum replies. Hope this helps!

Good luck

I don't know if it's the correct term, but I call them cowl ducts.

They can also be found in fake chrome color on some year W123's instead of black.

I think we are on different pages here......I think of "cowl ducts" as those openings just behind the hood, in front of windshield......what I am trying to describe is a sort of lip device that is located along the outer, forward edge of the A pillar.....or outer edges of the windshield.....I think their purpose is to prevent rain from blowing around the edge of the windshield......they connect to the drain channel above the door......and seem to also connect to a drain near the hood hinge.....(I have not totally investigated yet, been way too cold).......

This item, on the right, passenger side of my car came loose while driving above 70 mph....twice now.....and am lucky to have noticed it, both times......intend to glue it back down when it warms up a bit......unless I can find a replacement......it has apparently been disturbed by something like an automatic car wash sometime in the past of this car......

i think what you are referring to is the part that goes from teh A pillar all the way back. Although it is in 3 pieces. I also have a problem with the black rubber flying around at a bad time (speeding along at 100+kph). I've tried mighty bond, contact cement, silicone, gasket maker.. nothing seems to hold for a long time. I've scraped and cleaned and glued it back on the chrome part and yet, it still comes off after awhile (well about a couple of months)... it doesnt really irritate me though.. so right now, my driver side black rubber moulding, as i would call it, is taped on the chrome piece. Still holding for over 3 months now..

good luck in your hunt for that part.. i also dont know the official name of that part.

Question Still looking for a name and/or part #.....

Folks,

I would still like some info in the part name and if possible a part #......

RedBaron......I intend to glue my thingamajig back down if/when the weather warms up next week....will use 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive (part # 051135-08001) the yellow one known around mechanics as "monkey or gorilla snot".....there is also a black version that costs a couple of Dollars/Pesos more per tube.....I have had good results with this product in the past, and should work well for this application.....

Hattie, if I wanted to put it on, forever, for sure....I would use 3M 5200 Adhesive......but I want to keep my options open, just in case I can find this part......

Hey Shorebilly, you seem to have "missed" my suggestion back there near the top of the thread about "Jim Harris" who has several parts cars. He has been very helpful to me regarding misc parts!

Good luck on your search!

Nope, I did not miss that reference, and thanks......

This item looks as if it may self destruct if one wanted to remove it......and it was still glued to the car.....it looks as if there is also a loop or some sort of attachment that goes over (and under) the roof drain....thus attaching the upper end securely.....this little tab is broken on my part.....

I would think that it would be a readily available and relatively cheap body shop type of part......just not something that will fail under most circumstances......

Still looking for the name and a possible part # ....
