My 81-300SD (220K) lower cooler line is leaking about a drop or two once I stop. I have read some of the threads and I guess I need to change them.

The question that was not clearly answered in the threads is: Can you change the lines without lifting the motor and shock?

I am also worried about stripping the line on the oil cooler...which I cannot afford to replace right now. I would PB Blast them, but they seem to strip easily, according to the threads on the subject.

On the oil cooler threads heat and pb, turn really slowly, sometimes they strip, If they do stip you can drill and tap the theads.

You can change the lines without lifting the engine. However, the upper line will definitely give you fits. If you try it, put some duct tape over the hard metal end of the line, at the oil filter housing end, because you'll definitely need to force it though the gap at one point.

When you're successful with the upper line, the lower will install with no difficult.

The oil cooler fitting requires extreme patience. Heat is necessary to break the bond on the threads. A very slight movement back and forth is required with the addition of Kroil or PB to loosen the thread without stripping it. The back and forth motion may take nearly one hour to ensure that you don't force the threads............extreme patience is necessary.
