98 E300D Trans Shifting when Cold?
Hello all,
I've been lurking for a long time and I'm ready to take the plunge on a 98/99 E300D. I just test drove my first one today and it drives like a dream - extremely refined, good power, absolutely zero smoke even on a 20*F cold start. The only oddity I noticed is that while the engine was cold the trans didn't want to shift up into the next gear when I let off the gas - it seemed to hover in the lower gear/higher RPMs for a few seconds before shifting. It seemed a little abnormal compared to other non-MB autos I've driven. Once the engine warmed up the trans shifted up to the next gear promptly when I let off the gas. Is this normal, or a huge red flag? Thanks, Ray |
My '98 has never done that and I live in a cold climate...perhaps a fluid and filter replacement would help it out.

Maybe its learned some bad habits....you could try wiping its memory and letting it adapt to your driving style.
