Anyone done W124 OM603 Motor Mounts?

Hi Guys and Gals,
I replaced the driver side Motor Mount in the 1987 300D yesterday (easy!), but I'm having trouble getting enough clearance to get the passenger side mount out. Does anyone have any tips? I was considering removing a bolt on the driver side mount in case it was 'holding' the engine down, but I am concerned about not being able to line things up to reassemble.

As you can see, it looks like the Mounts were replaced with some aftermarket units. Notice the sagging, not bad but the liquid has leaked all out. I am replacing with the smooth Boge OE style mounts.

Changing the one Mount with a new Boge
Having 3 603s is Tiring!!

I would definitely loosen the driver's side mount. When I replaced the mounts on my '87, I replaced both while the engine was supported and then started the bolts into the mount. Afterwards, I lowered the engine. I don't recall having any clearance issues. Good luck.

Hi SW! Another Houston area guy! Yeah I removed the lower allen head bolt and got the clearance I needed! The pass mount was in worse condition than the driver side. I couldnt even feel it running!

Heres a pic of the passenger mount. Looks collapsed worse than the driver side. Took the car out. It drives like a gasser! No more shaking coming off throttle and it idles like a dream. I don't feel it starting anymore either. Its awesome!!

This DIY was very easy with simple hand tools. Like all DIYs, the key here is preparation and taking your time. Like always, make sure you have the tools ready, the holes cleaned out of the hex heads, paper towels, floor jacks with wood blocks, eye protection (for the falling grime and sand) and the OE smooth type mounts (pictured on the left). The aftermarket mounts did not age well, I don't know how many miles were on them but the OE ones felt WONDERFUL. Best repair I've done to her so far!

Thumbs up

Cool man! Nothing like a smooth running 603. Motor and trans mounts were the 1st things i replaced on my w124 when I bought it in 2003. The car felt SOLID afterwards.

How to do motor mount replacement

How do you do this job? Sounds like you have to lift the engine, and if you do that, I guess you have to disconnect it from the transmission?

I'll have to check the DIY section, see if there's anything.
