Where can i buy these clips?

Ive looked on a few websites but i can not find a place to buy these clips for the brakes on my 81 240D.

when i step on the brakes going slow i get a clank and i narrowed it down to the front left brake, the pads are shifting in the caliper just enough to clank and i think these clips are not holding them tight in.

pretty sure the retaining clips (and pins for pads) can be bought separately at the dealer

Junk yard might work too.

The wire clips are probably not the source of the "clank" -- their purpose is to steady the pads when the brake is not applied. Most likely, the brake pad backing plates and/or the caliper surface where the backing plates ride have worn, thus creating a gap so the pad can move a bit before butting up against the caliper. If you can move the pad up/down in the direction of rotor movement, there's your problem.

The clips look broken so they probably aren't doing their job, so they should be replaced wether they are causing a problem or not.

Ask Phil or Roy. Click on the "Buy Parts" link up top and send them an e-mail.

Weird. I have done brakes on at least 8 MB's including my 1981 240D and none of them had clips like that.

The Bendix calipers on my 300SD are set up nearly identically to that.

The clip on the bottom shouldn't be hanging out loose on the left side, though.
When it's in good shape, it's tightly wedged against the left side, pinching the clip between the sides of the caliper.

As to finding parts, like said above, I think you'd be well off just looking for a Bendix parts kit.

Failing that, I found that when I got my rebuilts, they both came with the whole parts kit.. :D

Yeah, some Benz's (not sure which) have a single metal piece that holds em in.

Can you not just simply put them in a vise and bend the ends outward until they are wide enough to wedge in the caliper again? (Man, that was a long sentence. My old English teacher would have beat me!)

Klaus,
that is "would have beaten me". :)

Buy good brake pads and they come with them. I have a local place "Brake Specialty Company" who has been in business since the 40's. I try to order all my big ticket stuff from them, especially brake related stuff.
