Question Limited Slip Differential in W123 ???

G'mornin' Folks,

I have been wondering, and I have done the search on "Limited Slip",......is there a limited slip differential that was a factory MB option on any W123??

Or, is there a MB limited slip that is easily installed in a W123 ???

I like the way these cars drive in wintertime, but having a limited slip differential would be a big plus.....

SB

Try searching the performance paddock for that answer...has been hashed several times.

Never an option on that chassis. The 16V carrier will fit with a ring gear spacer..not easily done!

When it gets warmer outside, I'm going to look into using a diff from a sierra xr4x4 that I have, or maybe one from an old supra.

It looks like MB did make one for our car check out the factory manual 35-560.pdf it shows a factory plate type LSD, I would love to get a hold of one.

In my thread concerning a differential swap http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=179661
I was posed the question of changing gears for better highway driveability. In researching this subject, I ran accross this link in which a 2.47 LSD from a 380SE was swapped into a 300SD. I wonder if it is possible to do this in a 300D?

I was thinking the Supra or Cressida rearend would have been the best choice as well. Some 5 Speed 85-87 Supras had LSD, I believe it was an option. The Cressida would be alot easier to find, and its the same as a Supra, just no factory LSD in the Cressida. OR, maybe a Lexus LS/GS 400 rear diff would be the ticket.

I believe the lowest gear ratio with LSD that will bolt in is a 2.47.

w126 diffs are adaptable to the w123 I believe. I'll be on the lookout for a LSD for my 84 wagon. It's under the knife right now... getting some more german hampster treadmills installed.
