240D OM616.916 IP Oil Level?

It never dawned on me to check the oil level of the IP in the 240D. There is only a red OEL cap at the back of the IP where the ADA should be sitting with internal perforations in the lid.

Is there a reccomended fill level or specific oil weight?

i am pretty sure on the 240s the oil level is connected to the engine oiling system and is all done automatically. earlier engines did require checking but i cannot remember where the cutoff for it is.

i think some of the 115 cars required manual oil level in the ip checking.

This IP is on a W115. Is it a separate system from the engine oil? Any idea what the level should be?

There is a level-plug just to the right of the fuel lift-pump.

Slacken this, no need to remove as it has a cross-drilling like a banjo-bolt and fill with std engine-oil through the red top filler, untill it flows out of here....

Tighten plug, and there you go....

are you guys saying they ALSO have another oil supply besides the oil line going into the block as was the case with the IPs I've removed from "78" to "82" 616s.

I presume you're thinking of 616.912 motors. This one is a 916 which is ironically older. Check post 3 for the IP photo and the cap at the top rear of the IP. That is a filler cap.

Oh, That would be the engine that is found in the 115, I have seen that red cap on those pumps. Sorry, I was looking at the "79' in your signiture.
