Why not just post the VIN and then hope someone PM's you. Or is that going to be a trap CzarFax uses in the future?

Ya thats silly, I'm sure they send that to every forum and most just ignore itm with good reason. That agreement is between the person and carfax, and up to the person what they do with it. Oh well It looks like I may have to get an account for this Jeep I want to buy 1J4FY49S6WP749829

grrr...

Perhaps the Carfax people will be interested to know that Autocheck gets my contract the next time around.

Well, one thing that is fairly clearly going on, is that institutional representatives are showing up on message boards, joining them, and conducting scans for their product names. If they somehow don't like the context of the message, then they can make threats, etc.

The way to deal with this is to embed certain key words into every message you post. This makes the issue a bit tougher to deal with in terms of the resources required to track things.

Carfax vs. Autocheck - Who do you prefer?

Have a nice day.

Hmmm... Not to bust a bubble, but I'd say that CF is just being fair as to the use of their product - no different than software copying or illegal music file sharing, which are both frowned upon -

That's probably what they want. You are either costing them money by (a) running Carfax's for other people or (b) don't want to pay the $25 to run Car Fax's yourself. Either way, you are costing them money.

Yes but if Autocheck is more open to this behavior then carfax may find they have very few customers. As it is right now, at least a handful of members always have a carfax account, thus bringing in about $100/month. If al the forums on the net are similar, that's a non-trivial amount of money.

Just thinking out loud...
