Fuel reserve light always on
1983 300CD:
Having read several other related posts, it appears that this issue is likely to be fuel sender related. Does anyone have direct experience of this problem and the fix? Cheers!

I'll trade you for mine, which never comes on.
Think you have to remove/drain the fuel tank. |

Sorry to thread jack but my reserve light ('87 124 with 603 enigne) comes on at 1/4 tank and the needle starts to bounce and not read correctly. I have never seen it read below that mark but I usually fill up when the light comes on to be safe so I don't know. Is this right?? thanks

Nah, the sender mechanism is located under the first aid kit rear deck. Start by pulling and disassembling the sender tube and clean it thoroughly in kerosene bein careful not to break piano wires. And if that fails then attack instrument cluster with electric parts cleaner.
Best method for pulling the sender is have small bucket handy for catching diesel fuel drippings from hitting the seat. |
