swapping 240D motors?

Will a motor from a 240D with automatic tranny match up with a standard transmission in another 240D? Seems like I can find a few 240D with manual trannys with the motor shot, and can possibly find 240D's in decent shape mechanically, but with the automatic transmission. I imagine I could make the swap, but wondered if there were any alterations that need be made or would it be a natural fit?
thanks,
coadman

the engine will bolt up.. Just transfer everything related to the manual over (drive shaft, rear end, spedos, pedal, etc) and while your their put in a 617 with the manual instead of the 616
