I bought a 1985 300CD to restore. The interior noise is closer to the 1963 Diamond Reo stub noses my dad used to own than my other MB's. What would cause this, bad rubber mounts somewhere?

Interior noise levels are relative to opinion. Is there a specific noise you are concerned about, or just general road/engine noise?
These old 123's are fairly noisy compared to modern vehicles, especially at 75-80 mph @ 4000 rpm.

pull up the carpets, look to see if the soundproofing is still there, or if it has crumbled and been removed by PO if it's gone, start searcing for soundproofing on here.
