Question subframe busing won't stay in place

I'm replacing the subframe bushings on my 83 300D turbo (w123). Ok, so I've gotten the old bushing out and I'm trying to get the new one installed. Problem is, it won't stay in the cup on the subframe arm. I checked that the new one was identical in size to the old one, and it is. I managed to get the new bushing pressed all the way in, but as soon as I let up on the pressure, it popped right back out.

For the moment, while I think about this and work on the other side, I bolted it all together like it's supposed to be but didn't torque everything down.. the bushing is still sitting about 1/4 inch proud of the cup. It is also still up on jack stands for the moment. Will that correct itself when I torque all the bolts down and take the car off the jack stands? And, if not, do I need to be worried about it?

I'm only asking because it seems like it would allow a lot of vertical play on the subframe arm, which doesn't sounds right.
