1976 300D Transmission Problem

1976 300D

Ok Someone told me this was a little tiny bushing thing on the top of the tranny cheap to get expensive to repair I wanted to confirm here.

First park does not work properly I can PUSH the car while in park and hear something going clunk.....clunk......clunk as I push it.

IF I HOLD the shifter in the park position this does not happen.

Also it will many times JUMP to drive when in park (I always part with the tire against something just in case)

neutral is fine though sometimes it seems like it "wants" to go forward when I give it gas (like its trying to gently sometimes it DOES manage to move slowly) but it does stay in neutral. Drive absolutely zero problems all gears shifts fine and seems to be pretty smooth. The MORE gas I give it the better it shifts oddly enough.

Reverse also jumps. if I am reversing many times it will "jump" to park (maybe drive??) either way it jars to a sudden stop so reversing I do nice and slow and usually do not have a problem. Just the occassional jolt to a stop thats not so bad since I am taking it real slowly.

I was told this is some kind of bushing thing for the shifter on the top of the engine a $3 part but that sometimes you have to yank the tranny to GET to this part.

Suggestions and Advice ? its NOT a serious problem I can live with it but i would love to fix it if its easy and or KNOW if its going to be a major problem for me soon :-)
