126 lower trim removal
Can anyone tell me the proper method for removing the wide trim piece's that run along the lower part of the car on a 126. I need to remove them to get it ready for paint.

I just pulled one at the junk yard to get the chrome piece for my left rear door. There is a nut on the rear end of the chrome strip under the door gasket. There is a sliding clip on the front end of the chrome strip. Use a thin blade to slide between the plastic and the door and push the clip back. Now you can begin to pop the whole thing off working from front to back. There are 4 snaps on the top behind the metal strip and 5 on the bottom about 2-3 inches from the lower edge. At the rear end of the bottom row is a hook pointing to the rear which will be the last thing you disengage by rotating it out of its slot in the door after all the snaps are free.

again - chrome strip. maybe 15 inches in lenght. purchased from dealer. three 'clips' included. they are rigid. ergo, do not bend. how to attach? thanks.

I have it on PDF, but its for pre face lifted W126's, 1985 and older. The newer ones are probably a bit different. But if anyone wants it send me a good email address.
It looks like its just held on by those plastic clips, you just pry it off.
