My driver's seat sags dramactically. Is it easy to change the seat frame. Should I get a new one of a used one? Should I also replacr the padding? Apparently, my driver's seat is from a 1983 (which has 5 stitched chaneels) while the pass seat is from a 1984 (has 6 stitched channels). Do they take the same seat frame? I also have to replace the seat belt receptor (driver's side).

Is the padding worn or is there a broken spring? I had a broken spring, and got it welded and the seat does not sag anymore. New = expensive when it comes to seat components. I would go the used route. I am always amazed at how well MB seats stay firm, even in junkyard cars. Changing out the spring frame is easy, but sliding the cover on it involves some work but is doable for a competant DIYer.

When your seat is sagging because of a broken spring, the solution is obvious. When it is sagging because of a worn horsehair padding, you can also add a kokos-matt over the horsehair padding and under the seat upholstery. We used to do that quit often in the W123's with sagging seats.
