That looks alot like one I removed last summer.
How hard was your 8mm allen head to remove? That bolt drove me insane for a couple of days. I had a pile of broken sockets and makeshift allen heads before I went out and bought the proper 8mm allen head socket.

they were all extremely easy. that really busted mount was from the drivers side. i had to cut the end off of a 5 mm (or maybe it was 6) allen and use that to get the last bolt out. hardest thing was reinstalling it.the new mount was more than double the height. tough to get it back in.

Was that because there was not enough space or clearance? Would it have helped if the engine was slightly jacked-up?

I have not done this work yet. Just asking.

yeh, i was told that my engine mounts are in need of replacement.

do i just unbolt what's left of them, put a floor jack under the center/bottom of the engine and jack it up...then replace the mounts??

thanks

im not sure what was the deal. i did everything i read about. i jacked it up as high as possible. i even experimented with lowering the transmission, which didnt help at all. i finally had to remove the drivers side engine shock just to get the clearance. overall it wasnt totally bad, but it was more of a pain than i think most have had.

thats the idea. hopefully you wont be as much work as mine.
theres one 8mm bolt from the bottom attaching the mount to the engine. and two 5 or 6 mm bolts holding the mount to the chassis. be sure to use a piece of 2x4 or 4x4 on top of the jack and the oil pan to avoid damage. and i would not suggest attempting this unless you definitely use floor jacks. just for safetys sake.

That 8mm bolt may be on there REALLY, REALLY tight. I suggest getting a proper allen head socket. You do NOT want to strip this one. Have a prybar and cheater handy. No kidding. Its INSIDE the bottom hole -- totally blind.

Clearance should not be an issue. The engine should have a good 2-3 inches of travel after the mount is removed. Floor jacks are a must just to get the clearance to put leverage on the 8mm bolt.

If you are doing this job, do a search on the forums. Tons of useful tips can be found in 5 mins of reading.

agreed, as with most work, i use wd40 before i even attempt to loosen up a bolt i feel is going to be trouble.
however, even with the linkages off, the fan shroud loose , i still had the valve cover tapping the firewall just before i had enough room to put the new mount in. and putting the old heatshield back in required some tricky maneuvering also.
