Frantz Oil Filter Installation

Someone sent me a message concerning the installation of a Frantz toilet paper supplementary oil filter on their diesel. We have nine cars in our shop rigged this way. Maybe this will help.

On the bottom of the oil filter housing on the 617 turbo engines there is a banjo bolt that feeds oil to the turbocharger. Simply take the bolt out and tap it for a 1/8 inch NPT and screw in a 90 degree number four AN fitting. Run this to the Frantz inlet. Run the outlet on the Frantz to the valve cover which is also tapped for the same style of AN fitting.

The Frantz has a built in 1/8 inch restrictor to limit the oil flow so it won’t starve the turbo for oil.

I apologize for the Styrofoam hiding a couple of things that your car probably doesn’t have.

I change the toilet paper every 2,500 miles or so and the Baldwin main filter every 10,000 miles with the Mobil One 15/50 oil change.

I am NOT recommending that anyone do this but it sure works for me.

Sounds good, thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately I have a 616 non-turbo. Any idea where I can tap off that one? Im sure I can get and weird metric thread from McMaster, so that is not a problem.

tHanks.

Excellent tip -- THANKS!

Adaptall has "double" banjo bolts that would allow you to add an additional banjo bolt fitting and thus not have to drill. Hydraulic Supply Company has them (see page 678 of their current catalog).
