A piece of information I left out, the car is appraised by three independent appraisers and there is a value insured. And, as I improve the car, which is hard to do because of its great condition, I would need to update the appraisal.
The biggest improvement work now would be with the engine. It runs great so I don't feel that is necessary. Anything else at this point is maintenence. Because the car is so much fun to drive we do use it a lot when the roads aren't salted. Jim W. |

just browsin over what "qualifys" with haggerty as a classic car. i doubt that they would even insure an old benz. Look under "do i qualify"
"It use to be said that any vehicle 25 years old or older was considered collectible. Today, however, this is not the case. Automakers' production numbers significantly increased in the 1970's and quality standards fell as many manufacturers rushed to bring vehicles to market. Because of this increase in production, we still see many 1970's and early 80's vehicles driven daily today that are not collectible. However, there are many vehicles from this time period that are collectible because of there desirable characteristics."

As far as agreed value, they have never asked for as much as an appraisal from me, and basically I think that as long as your car is worth less than $20K they will look at the photos and agree to whatever value you place on it, assuming it is reasonably realistic. None of my cars are "super high value" so they accepted what my opinion of value was without any further documentation.

Hagerty
I have my 81 300D insured at Hagerty for over a year now. That along with my 1966 Triumph Bonneville bike cost only $110/ yr. Some restrictions -garage etc. but for these vehicles it works for me. My regular carrier-Liberty Mutual would charge me 3X that for liability only on the benz. They wouldn't know how to handle the vehicles value for collision etc.

As I said a few posts back, I've had our two "keepers" insured with Hagerty for the last couple of years. I haven't had to use it but it was no problem to get, my regular insurance agent offered to save me some $ and set me up with Hagerty. Its a BIG savings
