Fresh air intake location?
On my w126, as some of you know, now has ac working. And just like everyone says, I am dissapointed in r134 cooling ability. I need to figure out how to get every bit of cold air out of the system! So I would like to know where the outside air intake is located.
I took out the glovebox, and it appears the big flap right behind is what I am looking for. Can I push that all the way open to prevent hot outside air from being sucked into the ac system? Another sort of off topic question - when my ac is going and I am in rush hour, sometimes my engine temps get up to 90 to 95 degrees C. Is this a cooling problem or is this normal when AC is on and stuck in rush hour? Thanks!!! |

the engine temp issue is ok.. as long as your aux cooling fan turns on..
R134 sucks... luckily I have a source of R12. mwhahahah |

Upgrade to the later, larger single rad fan or the very late dual fans.
Install parallel flow condenser. Tint the glass. Go back to R12.

I did tint the glass. Can not go to r12 (at least not this summer).
Any answers about the fresh air intake flap? |

Yes, I believe so. But what I am wondering is where would I go in the dash to find where the climate system opens/closes intake from fresh air or recirculating air.

It's behind the glove box, if you search and find it let me know.

After you remove the glove box you have better access to the door. You will see it above the blower/ fan assembly. I had to wedge mine shut last summer to get better cooling.

Fresh air is pulled in from under the plastic grating between the hood and windsheld, more specificly the passangers side.
Yeah on those 100 degree days the AC in these cars sucks, I need to go back to R12.

Yeah if you remove the plastic grating you can see the door opening from the outside. But the door swings up from the inside to close. That's why I pulled the glove box to get to it. I may be revisiting this in the near future. My system had been converted by the PO so I had it reworked. It blows cold but man on those 90/90 days here in NC it gets rough. With the door wedged closed it seems to work better.
