If you look close there are one or two screws securing the plastic box.Have you got them out? They are accesable from the top of the parcel shelf. You do not have to enter the trunk.

I removed the bulkhead in the trunk so I could loosen the big bolt with some channel locks.. I couldnt fit my self to the right position to get it undone from the top(hella tight)

when im in there, the plastic box slides around, but it almost seams like i need to move the shelf board/deck, in order to get the actual box out, is there a certain trick to doing it.
i also read that u can just use biobor aor something similar to remove all the gunk, is this true?

unscrew the screws and it lifts out... The sender unit has a small drain plug in it so the fuel level will register.. after the years it gets clogged.. not even biobar will clean that more than likely
10 minutes to remove it tops... and then 20 to clean.. careful with the guide wires |

I followed the directions posted for a 300D and I, too, could not figure out a way to remove the first aid box as easily as everyone posted. I then learned that if you remove the backseat you will find the access you need for the fuel sender.
This is one of those times when directions for the 300D do not apply to us with the 300SD. Check out this thread I started some time ago with pics. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=176522 I hope it helps

so i guess the SD's have the unit behind the seat then?
i really didnt want to remove my back seat because the leather is ripped from the sun on the top, but i guess there no way around it.

Yep remove the seat
On the 126 you have to pull the back seat. Then use a 46mm socket to remove the unit. I bought the socket from northern tools along with a 3/4'' to 1/2'' reducer for about $18 bucks total.
Those are some good pictures of what you will be getting into. One more thing--- get a coffee can or something like that to put the unit into as soon as you pull it out of the tank, it will catch the fuel that will be running out of the unit.

Crashone's right on. I just did this job. The sender unit is behind the rear seat, drivers side. I loosened mine with a hammer/punch then took it out with channel lock pliers. Careful removing the nut that holds the housing to the sender unit. It is synthetic and breaks easily. The float guide rod on mine had a rough spot on it, which caused erratic reads. I smoothed it with steel wool and now the fuel gauge is rock solid.

-thanks

leather
It's all one unit. There's three screws that hold the seat back in place. Remove them, lift up on the seat back and you're in biz.

You have to remove the bottom seat bench first and then you will have access to the screws that secure the back in place. You may have to pull upward to get it loose from sitting several years.
