battery/alternator fine-solenoid?

last week i thought we figured it out. cleaned up the terminals worked fine for a week. started fine on saturday drove it a half hour, sat for 20- wont started. battery/ alt seem to be fine.

all electronics work fine when it doesnt start. i ll turn the key and it wont do anything, doesnt click continuosly. no turnover. i ll do this a few times and it will start right up.

when she starts which is 90% of the time lately- she starts right up no hesitation.

your thoughts are appreciated.

when u try to start it, jiggle around your gear selector, it might be your neutral safety switch acting up

starter sound like a possibility, however, i think that if it were the starter than it would almost never want to start
maybe u have a loose conection going to the starter, are u shure everything is grounded out properly?

had the ignition switch, nuetral safety, wires resized, and shift bushings-$845.

been starting up strong up until today. went to start it after doing errands it didnt start right away a little jiggling and a few minutes it starts. again it wont turn over it will just click, this happened at the shop and we jumped the starter and it started fine.

any thoughts on where to look at next- the shop mentioned distributor/coils

Distributor and coils on a diesel? Thats a riot!

I had a Chevy Gasser that did that. Replaced the starter and solenoid, problem went away.

Bench test showed the solenoid going out.

Check and clean the three wires that junction on the right (passenger) wheel well. There is a terminal block there that is sometimes ignored. Take each terminal off and lightly clean with some fine sandpaper.

The "ignition" switch, solenoid, and wire connections at both points are still good candidates for where the problem lies. Had this general symptom on the '68 220D years ago and a good whallop to the starter usually got it going. Would suspect that if you had success with that method it would be the solenoid or connections on the solenoid.

Check your grounds: Batt-Chassis and especially Engine-Chassis. I ran into a problem a couple of years ago where the eng-chassis ground was loose and the symptoms were start one time and dead silence the next.
