how should I hook up vaccuum for shutoff?
Just wondering how to approach a simple vaccuum hook up to the fuel solenoid. The only thing I really need any vac for is the fuel shutoff (and the obvious like brake booster, etc.) - the motor is going in my old land rover. I'm not too familiar with the vaccuum system for these motors... any advice on how to simply and cleanly get vac to the solenoid? Is it as simple as teeing off one of the existing lines and running it to the solenoid? If I remember correctly, I have two large diameter lines running out of the vac pump, one going to the air cleaner assembly, and one (with a tee) running to the brake booster.
Any help much appreciated - I'm getting real close to getting this motor in that silly truck and have had a million questions in the last couple days... THANKS! |

i put a 617 in my 73 international travelall and this is how i did it. I used a standard 12volt solonoid that had the 2 vacumn connections. mine came from a car that used it to control timed vacumn advance. i know Standard ignition sells universal ones. now how mine is set up is when you turn on the key, the solenoid gets energized and it blocks vacumn thru it. now one side of the solonoid gets vacumn from the vacumn pump. the other side goes to the shutoff on the injection pump. now when you turn the key off, the solenoid is deenergized and vacumn goes thru it and it pulls the rack closed and the car shuts off. you will notice a 2 second delay from key off to engine off.
oh just remembered, there is a solonoid you can use that every turbo benz has on the firewall right to the left of the brake booster. it for the overboost. that will work too. hope i explained it good enough. mike |

so just to clarify, the fuel shut-off is not plumbed directly into the main vaccuum system (ie. the lines running off the vaccuum pump)?

Correct. Its a switched vacuum source that has no vacuum when the engine is running and receives vacuum to stop the engine.
