I just got an '87 124. Only one or two functions of the power seats worked. I had some contact cleaner/lubricant I got at Radio Shack (for $8). It fixed both seats! All I did was pull off the buttons (they are just pressed on) and squirt some cleaner in the slot above and below each switch. My switches were very sticky or would not move when I started. With some spray and some wiggling then a little more spray and some more wiggling they freed up. Now my seats work! Except the headrests (big surprise). It was a really simple repair and not expensive either. I used it on my window switches too. The PO had spilled at least one drink on the console and they were pretty gunked up. The cleaner freed them up nicely. Unfortunately my windows have issues beyond the switches

If you've got a seat/window that is giving you a problem it is definetly worth a try.

what kind of problems are your windows giving you? motors not moving? slow? clunky?

Do not work at all, no clicks, no buzzes, no smoke nothing.

But they do pop fuses. LF works as designed (fortunatly) RR clicks once each time button is pushed. Any help is appreciated. If you're wondering, this is on Loni, all Fritz's windows work. So I have a donor to swap parts if necessary.

pops fuses hmm. I have no experiance with w124's, but popping fuses sounds like a frayed wire in the door jam. could be a motor too, but wire is more likely.
for the click, on RR, it clicks then nothing, or it clicks once as it rolls either direction?

Usually the pattern of RF LR or LF RR indicates a blown fuse.
Checking the fuses is a simple enough process that it should be done before asking so it can be ruled out.

Danny, he says it does pop fuses, so I am certain he is checking them... he wants to know where to check as to where the circuit would be popping the fuse...

check the fuses, thats how I knew it was blowing them. It blew two, one after another, each with a single push of the button.

I wish my seat was that easy to fix, unfortunately contact cleaner doesn't fix a broken seat controller (the really expensive part that sits under the seat).

I'm having window wiring issues that I need to get back to.

My suggestion would be to put a fresh fuse in, then OPEN THE DOOR before trying the switch. See if this makes a difference (no click, window rolls up).

I'm guessing wires are frayed and shorting out against the door or pillar. By opening the door, you may move the wire loom location so as not to short.

Hopefully good timing for me. I just got my 82 300CD delivered today & will get that Radio Schak stuff or something similar at AAP.

My sunroof does nothing when I push the button & the fuse is OK.

& my RR window does the same.

Last time I went to Radio Shack looking for contact cleaner, the kid told me they didn't stock it, but I could get it at Walgreens....

His boss was ROTFL
