91 350 SDL problems: IP leaks and shut off
I am working on a 91 350 SDL and am having some problems I cannot figure out.
Car will not shut off: I know it is probably vacuum related, but I cannot find any leaks. If I put my vac gun to the shutoff, it will shut down at 15-20" of vac. I have to turn the vac gun to pressure to pump it back up for release so the car will start. The vac line from engine pump to shut off provides around 15" and the car does shut down sometimes, but slowly. What baffles me, is why the shutoff does not release and car will not restart unless I lift or pressurize it. I was thinking maybe it was a leak at the Ign switch where the vac line's connect, but everything seems in place, I vacuum tested everything I can think of. There is also an electrical device right next to the vac shutoff, I do not know if this is part of the shutoff device or unrelated? The car is leaking fuel from the IP badly, appears to all be coming from IP delivery valves at top of pump. I removed the lines and tightend them down, but they were pretty tight already. Seems weird that all of them are leaking so badly, I want to make sure there is not some other problem causing this before replacing all the seals. Pressure and flow at return line seems normal. I hope there is not some weird problem that is causing both problems. It also has a frozen waste gate which I tried to free with no success, car has no boost and perhaps it is stuck open a bit? Everything else seems OK. I know the 5cyl' cars, but these not as well. Too bad so many problems, It is a nice car w 160K. The car has sat for a while, but I do not know how long. Any advice greatly appreciated!! ~Mark 82 300TD 70 HILUX 86 Samurai VW 1.6TD |
