I burn B99 fairly often in mine. No problems. I wouldn't burnsomeones homemade stuff; only what is commercially made to specs.

Pro's - supposedly better for the environment

Con's - difficult to find, costs more than D2, produces less power and less mpg's.

Apparently the answer is more or less "yes." I'm a quarter of the way through my first tank full of B99, doing city driving -- gone about 120 miles. Older cars apparently have rubber seals and lines that degrade in biodiesel (which is highly solvent), but newer cars avoid most of these issues. Or so I'm told.

Pros of B99 are the pros of all biodiesel -- renewable resource, higher lubricity, mostly lower emissions, and so forth. A big factor around here is cost -- it's easily 10-15% cheaper than petro diesel.

One con is that the solvent properties of the bio fuel tend to break down buildup in the tank and lines. Lots of people clog their fuel filters when they make the switch. To be on the safe side, I'm carrying a spare spin-on fuel filter and a 3/4" wrench in the trunk right now.

So far I'm pretty doggone happy with the machine. I'll take a 500-mile trip this weekend and report back on fuel mileage, etc. Oh, and my new set of glowplugs should arrive in a day or two by FedEx.

Cheers, John

Yes it is, a problem easily rectified by removing the mastic, checking for rust, and then painting it with POR15.

The issue is across the W210 platform, not diesel specific although E300's and E430 may be more prone due to heavier engines.

Ya, that'd be me. But it fired right up!

Welcome John. Sounds like a nice ride! Those cloth coated lines are the fuel return lines from the injectors. ... my first too, and with 220K on the clock, it had a nailing injector..so I;m : into it" for the first time. I have to buy the blak replacement line ( from MBz) sincn I "stressed" them pretty good removing them. Usually I'm careful, but they're on a double barbed fitting. It works!!

Dont change them out until they weep, and I'm glad I dont have to "retro fit anything BioTD, since I plan on bio use soon ( do have all new upper lines since they were original ) Lotssa buffalo wing grease around here for stock!
