The other 5 were fine as comapred to the hideous one.

Nailing,. I sure as heck didnt think it mean a clogged injector looks like it has a NAIL THROUGH IT>>>!!!!!:eek:

I still love my grease car. The smell of diesel in the garage is , well, pleassant actually...as opposed to the new fuel pump I put on the Chevelle yesterday.... love 'em both, but like the smell of " Lil Blackie" better. :)

Oh, BTW, I'm glad I didnt Diesel Purge this bad boy. That'll be after the system is all back together and running properly.

The tops of the slugs need it bad, I'm sure. Wont bother popping the valve cover off, I found my bad knocking sound. I'll be in this far again over the winter when the car is off the road. Check the cams then.

Getting closer; malady found and corrected. Engine control wiring harness / glow plug harness is being corrected as as well. This bad boy is going to reach out and touch 40mpg, if it ran at 34.7 all FOULED up like this.

The "nail head" is the tip of the pintel, the part you dont want to touch.

A pop test will confirm if it is bad or not based on its pop pressure and spray patterns.

I've got a few nozzles in the garage much worse than that.

Sure hope they clean up and test good!

If there is any question as to whether the nozzle is any good, you may as well replace the whole lot.--Cheaper in the long run, and these items dont last forever. Anything over 100K miles is a no brainer decision:D

Alastair, the local diesel tech was empahtic " Dont buy anything ! " So we'll see. I cannot fathom how metal parts can wear via flow even after 200,000. Its like erosion, super long term. I hoping a good rebuild ( i.e. cleaning !) will be all they need. ( then again, I thought the "nail" was a foreign object, so what the * do I know!? ) HOWEVER, even at $75 a pop, I'm still underbudget in this car.

If I have to choose between nozzles made in India or ones made in Italy, well, its a no brainer. While I have no doubt Indian machine work is fine,. I;ve been inside an Italian engine before, Maserati heads to be precise. **** man, its machine head heaven, Mona friggin Lisa going on., Beautiful work. Beautful castings. Just joy. Even if you have to weld the heads up to fix them,( as my boss did ) its still a joyto work on them. Therefore, Bosios, to be sure.

So far I "aint" liking my " Made in Poland" oil filter whose O-ring was a mite too large. Reckon Rajiv may do better. Indian oil filter next time ( dealer item I imagine) , Italian nozzles,...?.. say is this a GERMAN car?? :)

Nailing refers to the noise that is made when the injector isn't spraying fuel like it should. No need for new nozzles (maybe) try the italian tuneup. The sound of nailing is scary,,, sounds like a connecting rod slapping around inside. Happened to me while a couple times while burning WVO,,, drove the car harder,,, problem went away,,, don't you just love Mercedes?

mespe, for sure that's what it sounds like. Which is why I tore apart the oil filter, first thing. No metal . Thank God! These greasers are peculiar.

Can anyone tell me what that pintle thing is *supposed* to do? Does it acually stop fuel flow? Please bear in mind I'm a greaser noob here, getting a little "baptism by fire".

New genuine BOSCH/DELPHI nozzles, from an Injection Dealer like Merlin-Diesel here in the UK is around 15 Dollars each for a DNOSD220/240/A type used in the 300D 616/7 engine-No brainer to fit old ones just cleaned!...

I just got some for a BMW recently, they were cheaper than the '240 nozzle as they didnt have the central pintle-hole They were 12 dollars as I recall..

Just get some new ones, and have them fitted...Any half tidy injection-place will be able to set the pressures, (115 Bar N/A) and away to go!

Dont buy a complete injector...Silly money, Its Only the nozzle that actually wears, and unlike the comments above, they only last a certain amount of time before they dont spray as well as when in good condition. The Pintle wears, as well as the seat which does the sealing...

Its easier and Less time-consuming to Fit New nozzles and re-set the shims than piss about cleaning something thats done in excess of 100K miles, and is worn...

Merlin-Diesel is in the UK, but Im pretty sure they will supply overseas to USA etc...
They are on the 'Web. They deal Only in Genuine OEM parts...

Its specialist suppliers, who supply the 'Diesel-Trade' is the only places you'll get them at a Proper Price. Try either Merlin Diesel or another Co. called 'Help Today' Both on the 'Web and based in the UK. These guys deal in only Diesel Injection Equipment parts and complete assemblies generally just to the 'Trade' but will also supply private individuals. :D

Hey Hi Comp II, well one BIG mitigating factor is that I have an ally at the parts counter, two, er three actually. Comes with being a gen-u-wine gearhead and the fact that I never assumed the pretty blonde was a no -nothing... :)

Wiring harness, engine, 1995 E300 W124 Diesel, $ 214.00 out the door.

Plus, I promised the parts manager I'd help him build a big block Chevy to make 450 ft lbs for around $3500 or so. Reckon I'll be building that man a motor. No big shakes, he saved me $80 over internet prices and $200 over dealer on that one piece alone.

Nozzles are given as $51 a pop retail. Bet I get them for $22ea.
