Straight Pipes: Its NOT loud enough anymore!

Well, I got used to the sound of the exhaust letting out directly from the downpipe... Really loud. Now that I put some straight pipes on, its not loud enough anymore I want to take the pipes off again, are there any negative effects from letting the exhaust out at the downpipe forever?

Nothing wrong as long as you ride with the windows down all the time. The pipes all the way back keep the toxic fumes out of the cabin.

I was just hoping that you were kidding, maybe you can just put some baseball cards in the spokes.

Well, its summer, and I need AC, so I guess I'll live with the quieter car for now.. Lost some of my turbo sound, main thing I miss... Wonder if its possible to make some kind of resonator that will amplify the sound instead of making it quieter..

I'm getting tired of my straight pipe too.

Time to add a muffler.

I went from the factory setup to a setup with a "diesel truck muffler" at the back roughly where the original muffler was, and straight pipe underneath, no resonators. Sounds good! Sweet sound at the back (like a truck! ) and more of a rugged rumble inside, you can hear the low pitch of the engine better. I love it. And its not too loud either.

I have no resonators, no muffler right now. Its quiet compared to letting it out at the downpipe... I miss the noise, but I spent $15 on this stuff... Kind of a waste if I don't use it..

cut a hole in the hood and put the pipe out the top like a farm tractor. With no muffler you should be able to hear it just fine.

I ran just that downpipe for a year or so. It was fun around town to hear the turbo spool up and down but the highway noise was annoying. I could stand the extra noise if it were a fast car, but it doesn't make enough sense to have a loud, slow car to me. Bought a new muffler and had it welded on for 50 bucks.

Get some 160 dB headphones and a bigger stereo. Before long you won't notice.
