Loss power

Hello all,

I have a 98 E300TD with 135,000 miles and it seems like I've loss power. When I hit the gas, there seems to be a lag in the turbo. And when the turbo finally kicks in, it doesn't feel like it has that much more power. It just feels like a non-turbo car accelerating. I would really have to give it a lot of gas (almost to the floor) in order for the turbo to kick in and when it does kick in, it seems like the turbo is only working at 50% or even a little less than 50%.

My brother has the same car with 176,000 miles and his seems to have a lot more power than mine. I drove his car the other day and when I give it a little gas, the turbo kicks in right away and you can really feel it go.

In the last 3 months, I've changed the fuel filter, the pre-filter, the fuel lines, the O-rings, the Air mass sensor, the air filter, and did a diesel purge.

Could it be the turbo that's having issues or my fuel injector?

I would really appreciate any help.

thanks

Sounds classic for a bad MAF but you've already replaced yours....you didnt use one of the cheap ebay VW inserts right?

Could also be a boost problem.

Both of the above if bad should give a CEL.

I got the MAF at the Mercedes dealer.

If it's a boost problem, is there a simple way to check it or would i have to take it to a shop?

thanks

If you have no boost you should have a CEL.

The waste gate is vacuum controled.

You could check to see if it has vacuum.

The same control valve is used on the EGR valve "I believe"....I seem to remember folks swapping them when testing components. Follow the vacuum lines to and from each unit and compare to confir, as I am NOT certain of any of this.
