I guess I wasn't clear: it was 80 mph, downhill and had been running full throttle for about two miles. I've done this several times, and that's the record. The acceleration of this car could only be called "stately" at best.

As far as I could tell, the spike in the temp was caused by a release of pressure by a defective radiator cap, which lowered the boiling point of the coolant. Replacing it seems to have removed the problem.

I will be looking very carefully at the throttle linkage in the near future. I wonder if it might not be hitting its full stop on the top end.

somethings wrong

Somethings wrong with that 190D because 80 should be easily obtained. That car is not like the 240D. Somebody asked about 140mph in a 190D. I think the Fins could probably come close with that 190D with the modded 603.

I agree, I can even squeak 80 mph out of my 240D auto, the 190D should do better than 80.

Either of mine cruise the interstate quite nicely at 75 mph, and have been over 80 on occasion. After a lifetime of running diesels (tractors) with a max rpm of 2000-2500, somehow I can't bring myself to push a diesel much over 4K rpm, about 80 mph in the 190D. I did hit 85 once on the NYS Thruway, just cruising along with traffic, looked down and voila. I would guess that given a long enough stretch of downhill road, with a tailwind, a 190D might go over 90 mph.

Top speed in a 190D 2.2 should top out around 100 mph assuming all 72 hp is utilized.

Errr... maybe? I'd have to fall nose down, because it definately wouldn't do it falling flat.
