Car still won't start 1990 350SDL

Ok. I replaced the fuel filter today in my 1990 350SDL hoping that this was the culprit. The car wants to start, it is turning over but not kicking in. Has anybody else had a problem that sounds like this. I was also wondering i have a good size hole in my exhaust(getting fixed soon) but would this have any effect on starting car.

The exhaust wont have any effect on the starting. Maybe you have glow system not working properly or its sucking air instead of fuel.

What exactly does this statement mean?

Does it crank properly and fail to start?

I'm not grasping the part about it "wants to start". How do you determine this?

If a 603 engine won't fire on any cylinders when cold, the very first thing to check is the glow plug system.

Probably glow system. If you have a couple of bad plugs it will be hard, if not impossible, to start. If you have even 1 bad plug, replace all 6, with Bosch or Beru.
