Mitsubishi VNT Turbo TF035HL2-12GK2-VGK?

Hello turbo gurus! Does anybody know the VNT working principle of Mitsubishi TF035HL2-12GK2-VGK turbo? There are a few on sale at http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Auto-Japan-Warehouse and Mitsubishi L200 pick-up uses this turbo. It doesn't look like a twin scroll turbo or like a Garrett VNT with circular vane system. There might be some flap or vane that directs the gas flow to a smaller area of the turbine at lower rpm. Like the Garrett VNT it doesn't seem to have a waste gate. I would appreciate any information on the turbo.

Post this question at the Schuman Automotive forum in the Super Turbo USA section. Brandon and gang know their stuff on turbos.

Tomant,

this seems to be a wastegate type. Can't believe that there is a vane mechanics inside. The exhaust side is larger than a typically VNT.

tomnik,

VGK means some kind of VNT or VTG, that is variable geometry turbo. This is reported in many writings of Mitsubishi L200 and off road vehicles. The pressure box must operate this system, I don't think it's a normal waste gate. I just want to be sure about the mechanism before I buy one ,-)

What they show is a wastegated turbo, not a VNT.

Maybe they mixed up the pic.
If you compare the turbo with one e.g. off an Audi/VW TDI with VTG the one in your link looks rather like a wastegate type.
From time to time there are VTG's off CDI and TDI below 100 Euros in ebay.de.
Why do you want THIS one (being not shure if it's the correct one)?

I know this turbo looks different than the Garrett VNT or the BorgWarner VTG or IHI variable turbos. I still believe that this one, which is sold as "VNT VGK" has some kind of variable turbine housing. I just asked if someone is familiar with this turbo.

I've got a 190E with a 2.0 litre gasoline motor and I would like to try a rear mounted turbo in the car (something like Rick Squires at ststurbo.com). Just wondered if this Mitsu TF035 would be of the right size. I haven't found any compressor maps for it but it seems to work fine with a 2.5 litre diesel so it might do the job with my motor too. If it is a VNT turbo it should wake up early and the bigger turbine side would not be too strangling at top rpm.

I see ads for STS all the time when watching car shows on SpikeTV.

You'd be better off mounting it on the exhaust manifold where it will actually be efficient.
