Spin on filter washer

Is the O-ring that dieselgiant includes with his spin on filter the aluminum washer under the banjo bolt? Or the rubber o-ring on the filter side of the housing?

I got a filter sent with an order that I placed somewhere else online and I found that somewhere in the history of the car someone replaced the filter without putting the washer underneath the bolt head. I went ahead and replaced the filter, and it's not leaking...yet.

Can I just go find a washer of malleable material that will fit and slap it under there?

I had this same issue.

The rubber washer goes between the spin on filter and banjo bolt. You slide it on the banjo bolt and then put the spin on filter in. Make sure the old one is gone.

I am awaiting the response to your washer question, I think I need one as well. I have one in there but it doesnt look so hot...

My '82 240 needed one, the other four, did not. If it's not leaking around top bolt, don't worry. I ended up going to the local hardware store and got a composite washer of similar thickness and I.D. "#30 cap thread gasket stk no 35566B" Danco Company. Still working.

It depends on which bolt and housing you have. I think they used 3-4 on the 617, the dealer can tell you which bolt/seal combo you need with the VIN.

I beleive the later 617's used only rubber O rings like the 603's.

OK, I guess it may not need one. Seems like it would've leaked at least a little (which it didn't) if it needed one. Thanks for the replies...

Mine started leaking after the last filter change. I've never paid attention to the bolt seal, just the filter seal. Thanks for airing this one out!

what year is yours? I have one on the banjo bolt on the three way next to it, just not the main fuel filter bolt.
