york ac compressor mating.
im so tired of these r-4 compressors they are just pissing me off. they are unreliable and are mounted in the worst place imagineable. i was wondering if it is possible to mount a york compressor on a 1983 240d? i have an arc welder and unlimited welding supplies.

I would think mercedes did not change the block casting but you can check that out yourself. If not just get whatever you need to mount the york from an older car.
Probably no reason to fabricate anything. The york is mounted high on one side of the engine. |

I'll trade with you???? 77 300D, with the beloved YORK, which doesn't cool, is loud, and when coupled with the infamous servo, either freezes you in the winter or burns you up in the summer. Just kidding about the trade, dem deutches volk, learned how to air condition in about 96.

While you're at the boneyard, pick up the mounting hardware and hoses. MB mounted the York on the pass side on some of the 1977-1981 240Ds and 300Ds.

yeah i see that. do you think that its worth the conversion? i have herad that yorks are the most reliable and compress a ton of freon. but it is noisy and puts a major drag on the engine? im just so friggen tired of crawling under my car and trying to get to these god damn bolts and the compressor relaly isnt that great.

I don't know. I've been lucky with the R-4s. Three 123s still have the original R-12 system with the R-4s that work great. I've never had to work on them except for the occasional R-12 top-off.
The York appears that it may be easier to work on. If you can get the mounting hardware it may be a good choice. ![]() |

well i just see it as reading the technical specs on it at the website it shows how durable it really is. and it has rotolock valves means YOU CAN WORK ON THE COMPRESSOR WITHOUT DISCHARGING THE SYSTEM YAYAYAYYAYAYA

My '77 240 doesn't have the rotolock valves on it. The York while a good compressor probably takes more HP to drive it. The WAY OVER-ENGINERRED compressor mounting bracket makes it a real pain in the butt to change even a water pump. the whole thing has to be pulled away just to get 2 or 3 bolts out to remove the pump. I had to change the exhaust manafold gasket at the head and YES the whole bracket had to be removed. If I was having issues with the R-4 Harrison compressor, I would spend the $$ and buy a NEW one. My opinion you would spend less that way then trying to convert it. Your A/C LINES also wouldn't work.
