injector pump
this probably isnt even possible but I was thinking the other day would it be possible to take a 5 cylinder turbo IP and a non turbo 4 cylinder IP and switch pieces around to make a 4 cylinder IP with the proper fuel controls for boost
I think not as probably the case lengths are different just for starters. One case has a five throw crank while the other has a four. You can measure to be certain though.
I didnt know how things hooked together inside one never had one apart, but I was thinking using the 4 cylinder IP crank and piston housing and the fuel controls off of the 5 cylinder
There might be a modiication with some research. I remember there were aftermaket turbos in europe for primarily the 240d. I suspect the euro pump might be different for starters.
There is even a member sitting on one of those turbo kits I believe. A photostat of the installation instructions might reveal something. |
The 5 cylinder IP cam would not be timed correctly to run a 4 cylinder engine, so no it will not work.
Just noticed you plan to use the 4 cyl pump and cam, so in that case, it may - depending on what all you plan to switch around.
Im not realy planning on doing anything right now I was just wondering I saw allot of people wanting to turbo there 616's and you dont gain much if you dont get more fuel with it so I thought I would see if anyone had ever done it or thought about doing it
I hear you as I have two 240ds. The downside is if succesful you will have to buy a higher rated tire than turtles. :D
Just buy a 300D. You will only get ~90hp out of a 240D even if you turn it up to the max so you might as well start with more power.
There is no point in turboing a 616. Without piston squirters, sodium valves, reinforced cranks and what not it just won't hold up. For the amount of money you would spend in sticking a turbo on it you could buy a whole 617 with turbo.
