How may 300D 2.5 Turbos cames to the US?

Like the title says, I was curious if anyone had a precise, or even ball park number of how many of the W124 300D 2.5 Turbos came to the states between 1990 and 1993.

Thanks guys.

Sorry, don't know. All I know is that on the West Coast they are extremely rare, not having been sold in CA. I've spotted TWO 2.5Ts besides my own in Los Angeles, and know of two others here that I haven't seen.

there are quite a few around here, not sure on the exact number though...

I saw one at the junkyard today, and with what others have said so far, I'd say there is at least more than 10 :D

Sorry man, I got nothin' better than that :P

I've only seen a couple in WA, not including mine. I have seen a couple here in New York, but I don't have a car here (yet) so these are just sidewalk observations. Not sure on the numbers, but I do remember reading something about them a while back. Does 10,000 over the four year run sound reasonable?

That sounds a little high to me, but I'm basing that on the fact that 1500 W124 300TDs (all in 87) were sold in the US.

See attachments, from the book Mercedes-Benz production models book 1946-1995 (Motorbooks International, 1995, ISBN # 0879381906).

The numbers sound lower than I would expect, but the book does mention an "alarming" decrease in production of Diesel cars in the late '80s.

Only 523 2.5L sold in US!!!
No wonder they had held a high resale value, and so sought after for the Veggie Oil group for conversion cars

What about 1992 and 93? Those figures aren't shown. According to this, more 500E's were built than 300D 2.5's. I've only seen one 500E ever, and I've seen at least three or four 300D 2.5's. I don't know if 500E's sometimes being "sunday drivers" has anything to do with it, but it's some info to chew on...

I'm guessing those figures are for production years, not model years. They weren't available in the 1989 MY. Mine was built toward the end of the 1990 MY; it was picked up at the dealer at the end of May 1990.

Any chance you could scan in the numbers for the 87 300d? I saw it once but have been looking for those numbers again ... :)

I'd love to see the numbers for the '87 190D Turbo also.

Attached are the production numbers for the 190D-2.2, 190D-2.5 & 2.5T, and 300DT & TDT.

Note that the numbers indicate total production, so they may not be representative of how many were delivered to North America.

If you're curious about this kind of stuff, consider getting a copy of this book to look through. It has all sorts of specifications for every single model of Mercedes - weight/dimensions, engine info, performance, fuel economy, prices, transmission gear ratios, etc. It's about 300 pages, with at least 1 car per page.

Enjoy! :)

I wonder if that included the European Delivery Program, where people went to Germany to select and pick up their car, then have it sent to the US?
