Question How to ship manual tranny stuff across the country

Welp, the manual tranny and all associated components from Scar need to go from Texas to California. I assume a pallet is obviously the best way to go.
I just have never shipped anything before in this manner, and would certainly welcome any advice from my forum buddies.
We're talking manual tranny, clutch, pressure plate, fly wheel, shifter, pedals, drive shaft, linkages, etc......
Will I need to get a pallet and have it all loaded up, or just take the stuff to a shipper and they strap it down.
Cost will certainly be a factor also.
Thanks for any advice.

Take everything off the tranny that you can to lighten it as much as possible.

If you can get it down to 125 lb. or so.........carefully pack it in a double wall cardboard box (specially obtained) and ship it via Fedex Ground.

I shipped the cylinder head inside a wooden crate (115 lb.) from NY to CA for a cost of $60. In reality, you can do it in cardboard and save the cost of the crate. I'm sure you can do this with the transmission as well.

Pack all the loose components in another box and ship it separately.

The cost is far less than any other option.

Talk to that guy Truckinik about it. Perhaps, he can be of some help. It is the business he's an expert in after all.

Very good! I got a PM with the same helpful info that Brian posted. Actually, a manual tranny doesn't really weigh that much. I was surprised. The driveshaft pieces don't weigh that much either, they will just be an odd length......
Thanks yall!

make sure they paint a line on the drive shaft before they separate the two sections! when I got mine, I just drove up and loaded it into the TD...

What happens, if there's no line drawn ? Why does it need to go back together the same exact way?

the two sections are balanced if you don't reassemble same way, it will vibrate.

if you strap it to a pallet, forward air may end up being cheaper than going fedex.

Forward Air is an option if you and the receiver are close to an airport. You can also check uship.com. You post what you need shipped and a target price you'd like to have it done for, and folks "bid" on the job. Haven't used it, but have heard good things from those who have.
