Getting stickum off MB TEX ... GooGone?
Back when my sister had this car for a year (before dad gave it to me) she had a portable CD player hitched onto the side of the console with a velcro pad using this death-grip glue. I got the velcro off but it left a disgusting swatch off goo and bits of itself. All the usual cleaners ... Mr. Clean, Simple Green ... are definately not up to the task. What can I use to kill this stickum without damaging my beautiful palomino TEX? Goo Gone?

I have used Goof Off for that task and it has worked very well. I seem to remember that it worked better than goo gone.

I know liquid lighter fluid works also, but that is on hard plastics. I have used it to take adhesive off of my old Pontiac's paint years ago, and it also stripped the wax off. It did not lift any paint though.

Glop peanut butter all over it and let it sit for 24 hours -- seriously! This trick does wonders for getting rid of many types of adhesives from stickers, tape, etc.

I've used both WD 40 and Goof off. Liked the Goof Off better. Use a soft cloth and plenty of patience.

Thanks guys. I used WD40 this afternoon and got most of it off ... just took my time and spoiled a couple fingernails. Still some residual yuck, so I'll buy some Goof Off and try that to finish the deal.

Easy big fella. Let the game come to you.......
As mentioned above, use lighter fluid for glue on things. If I've ever actually known an answer to something on the forum, this is it! It does not harm paint either on other items, and doesn't harm the finish on other parts. Seems like there is always 30 year old tape on some old fans for various reasons {none of them good}, and lighter fluid works great, and leaves the paint intact always. Oh, and best of all, it gets rid of the glue!! I threw my Goo Gone away. Thought I would give it a try, but it wasn't even close.....

Try letting the WD-40 soak longer, and if you use goo-gone test it in a hidden area first. That stuff will eat some plastics.
