Lights Flashing when doors lock

1985 300sd When I lock car the headlights start flashing. I can reset it with key, but after a few minutes it starts again. Can any one tell me where to start troubleshooting this problem? Thanks in advance Jack

Jack, that's a really interesting problem (easy for me to say, I know). I would start by asking whether the car has an alarm (factory or aftermarket). Alarms sometimes make the headlights flash along with honking the horn. A partially broken alarm might cause your problem.

Im not 100% sure on the late W126's that had alarms but if it was like the W124 check under the front passanger floor mats for a metal box that says becker on it.

That is the alarm system. Same thing happen to me on my 87 300D, i just disconnected the alarm system. There is 2 big plugs that plug into the box, just disconnect them and your problem should go away.

Flashing Lights

The alarm system is factory as far as I know. I will check out the box under the passenger floor mat. Thanks for the help and allso telling me where the forum was discussing these issues. I am glad we have a Forum such as this that can help solve problems without having to go to a dealer and spend an arm and a leg.
