Replacing rear shocks on the '83 300SD
Trying to decide between Sachs or Bilsteins Any recommendations of 1 being better than the other?

MB used Sachs as OEM when they built these cars....thats what was on mine when I took off the ORIGINAL
shocks a couple weeks ago. I replaced them with Bilstein HD's though.

Really? I thought the Bilsteins were OEM. Mine are pretty well shot at 240k miles.

The 99 had Sachs/Boge's on it when they were changed to Bilistiens at 195k.
Folks talk them down, but, they seem to hold up reasonably well.

Nothing rides like Bilsteins. If you can afford the shocks, get them, you wont be sorry! I have tried many varieties of shocks, and nothing works as well as Bilstiens. I prefer the HDs.

It seems mine are original Bilsteins also with the MB star on the front shocks. Haven't inspected the rears as much yet. I would go with Bilsteins hands down.

Billstein for the best handling followed by Kayaba or Sachs. Stay off Gabriels, quite common here in India, pathetic in every sense.
