It's time for a valve adjustment. I will be taking it to the local indie shop for this service. What else should I have them check? I'm going to be moving soon. I'll be driving my car about 1700 miles and I'll be SOL if something fails along the way or when I arive at my new destination. I know all the basics like filters, glow plugs, oil, trans fluid, ect. Is there something else I should have them check? How about the injection timing? Thanks for any advise, andy

As long as the valve cover is off, it's wise to check tension in the timing chain, as well as any wear on the rails.

Need more advice from Zoon....
Hey Zoon....
I have your same car with the same miles. Just bought it though. What is the general rule of thumb on checking timing chains?

Don,
Here is a quote from Benzmac: "...you could check by lining up the marks on the cam by turning the crank clockwise then reading the degree marks on the crank." I think the rule of thumb for replacement is about 3 or 4 degrees...some say 5 degrees. If you do a search, and put in "timing chain" as the subject, you'll be rewarded with a host of good info.
