1985 300D Turbo, Brake ,Trans fluid

Hello All ,I just joined the discussion group and hope someone can help me find out what type of ATF and brake fluid is required for my 85' 300D turbo. The car has been in the family since new and has 135,000 miles. I am replacing the right front caliper and all the brake hoses, and, replacing the trans filter and fluid. Any help/suggestions are apprieciated , Jim

any brake fluid but silicone dot 5 is fine, any trans fluid is fine, most here use the synthetic redline or Mobil1

Since you are replacing the right front caliper, you may as well do the left side. Like hoses, replace in pairs is a good rule of thumb.

Sounds like the MB is a good keeper.

Welcome aboard!!!

Make sure you drain the torque converter too.

Thanks for the input and the welcome. The brake fluid specified on the fill cap is dot 4. When I went to buy the dot 4 fluid, all I found was semi ,or fully, synthetic dot 4 fluid . Is all dot 4 synthetic and is this the correct stuff? Also ,is a trans pan and torque converter drain with a filter replacement as effective as a full trans fliud replacement flush (with the appropriate machine)? Thanks, Jim

Valvoline Synpower

Valvoline Synpower, full synthetic, exceeds both DOT 3 and DOT 4 specs....for your Brake Fluid.....

I was told that a flush can dislodge particles, or some particles may remain in the flush machine and move up into the transmission so the safest way is to drain the pan and torque converter then replace fluid without a power flush. I use Mobil1 ATF in my pet '87 300D but regular Dexron equivalent in the older trannys
